About the Author

Samantha Blok is an artist, writer and social commentator from Sydney, Australia. Her work explores feminism, religion, purity culture, art, literature, history and stories about women.

She is the author of Gothic and Regency romance novels,including The Haunting of Rosehill, The Heir of Ravens, and beloved Regency romcom series The Trouble with the Tollivers. Her forthcoming non-fiction book, The Good Girl Script, unpacks evangelical girlhood, purity culture, Biblical womanhood and the long work of unbecoming.

Academic Background

Samantha Blok studied Fine Arts at the National Art School in Sydney, Australia, before completing a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Education and a Master of Teaching.

She spent seven years working as a teacher before moving into educational policy reform, where her work has focused on education systems, public policy and social reforms. She is also the author of six books, spanning fiction, memoir and cultural commentary.

Personal Life & Advocacy

Samantha lives in Sydney with her husband of ten years, their daughter, and an ever-growing collection of books, art supplies and unfinished creative projects.

Her work is grounded in a deep interest in women’s autonomy, religious deconstruction, education, art, literature and social justice. As a former evangelical, she is particularly passionate about unpacking purity culture, challenging harmful religious and cultural scripts, and advocating for a world in which women and girls are free to think, question, create, desire, lead and belong to themselves.
